04.08.202614:13:44UTC+00US Factory Orders Fall for 2nd Month

US factory orders slipped 0.3% month‑on‑month to $656.5 billion in June 2026, following a revised 1.1% drop in May and defying expectations for a 0.2% increase. This marked the first consecutive monthly decline in nearly a year, suggesting mounting pressure from surging energy prices linked to the war in the Middle East and the ongoing drag from tariffs.

Orders for non-durable goods fell 1.2% to $321.13 billion, driven by lower prices for chemicals and petroleum-based products. In contrast, durable goods orders edged up 0.5%, recovering only a small share of May’s 4.0% slump.

Within durable goods, orders declined for fabricated metal products (‑0.6% to $45.2 billion) and transportation equipment (‑0.1% to $114.1 billion), offsetting gains in machinery (up 0.3% to $43.8 billion) and computers and electronic products (up 3.2% to $31.1 billion).
